Have you ever been approached by someone in your school community who needs basic items, such as a school supplies, household items or even an iPad, but you’re not sure how to go about providing that kind of support?
SU QLD is proud to be partnering with Australian online not-for-profit, GIVIT, where you can easily, and at no cost, request specific items on behalf of the students and families you work with. Businesses and individual donors see what you require through givit.org.au and can directly donate that item.
You’ll also have access to GIVIT’s virtual warehouse full of new and pre loved goods that have been donated for vulnerable Australians. GIVIT asks donors to post photographs of their donations and hang onto them for at least a month. In this way a huge online list of locally available items is created, which you can browse and reserve as needed.
It’s a simple concept, a lot like a charitable Gumtree where items are donated, not sold.
Once a donation match is made, you will receive the details of the donor and you can arrange for the item to be delivered or to pick it up.
At all times, privacy is preserved and the donor never meets the recipient of their donation.
You can also request items for your wider community or for your own services. So, if you’re running a special project and need art supplies for it, you can request those too.
GIVIT’s Founder Juliette Wright, is thrilled about this new partnership with SU Qld.
“GIVIT’s goal is fill need in the community by inspiring others to give new and quality pre-loved items online,” Juliette said, “School chaplains are some of the most informed people when it comes to need in their community and we couldn’t be more excited about this partnership.”
“I think when it comes to values of generosity and wanting to help people in need, we are very aligned and together we’re going to make a massive difference to the lives of our most vulnerable.”
